Gray Malin’s New Dallas Photo Series Puts Pups and Longhorns in the Spotlight
The Famed Photographer and Hometown Boy Brings His Signature Whimsy to The Mansion and Highland Park Village

Famed photographer and hometown boy Gray Malin has just debuted an enchanting new series of images.
The collection, titled “Gray Malin in Dallas” and available now, was inspired by two iconic Dallas destinations that informed his eye while growing up: The Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek and Highland Park Village. But there’s more.
In keeping recent series (such as last year’s shoot at the soon-to-be-gone-forever Neiman Marcus Downtown flagship store), he’s channeling his inner Doctor Dolittle, casting not our local fashionable socials, but rather four-legged stars: dashing dalmatians, charming corgis, and a few distinguished longhorn steers. The latter meander through The Mansion’s courtyard and entrance, while pups are tippling (what else should a leisurely evening en-tail) in the Mansion Bar. It’s a wonderful wink to the Mansion’s pet-friendly environment with its former cat in residence Duncan and now Andy.
The collection then moves to our retail Mecca with its elegant Mediterranean Spanish-style architecture, Highland Park Village, where some shopping ensues.
Malin had a launch party recently at the Mansion Bar, and I coaxed him away from his legion of collectors and friends for a trio of questions.
BF: Type of dog that would play you in a movie.
GM: That is a hysterical question. I think I would be a dalmatian or a golden retriever, depending on the genre. The dalmatian for a more independent, artistic film, and a golden for a rom-com or dramedy.
BF: Dream location in Dallas that you have yet to shoot.
GM: I think it would be iconic to capture the dogs on the 50-yard line at the Dallas Cowboys Stadium.
BF: An anecdote from this shoot.
GM: The longhorn trainers unexpectedly brought three steers to the shoot, instead of two, because one of them was the best friend, and they were all more comfortable together. If you can imagine, I had the two longhorns in front of me, plus another longhorn behind me during the entire shoot.
