Dallas Lands a Fancy New Airport Luxury Lounge: DFW’s the First Airport to Get the Plush Retreat of the Future

BY // 09.27.18

Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport is in for a luxurious upgrade with addition of a plush new lounge, and it’s not just a flight of fancy. American Express reopened its renovated and redone Centurion Lounge on Thursday.

The aim? Take the purgatory out of the dreaded layover or early morning wait, add in some premium experiences. American Express is hoping that no matter your experience with the TSA, you’ll give yourself some TLC in the revamped space.

American Express Platinum Card and Centurion Members will get access to more space and amenities within this DFW retreat. The deluxe Lounge is in a new space in Terminal D, near Gate D12 just inside security.

A whopping 3,000 square feet of space has been added, bringing the lounge’s total footprint to 12,500 square feet.

The lounge now offers new perks, upping its relaxation and recharge game. Three shower suites are set up, private telephone rooms are available for intimate calls, a mother’s room is in place for flight-fatigued families. This comes in addition to all the Centurion Lounge’s previous features and services.

But it doesn’t end there — the wheels are just getting off the ground. There’s a full, premium bar with specialty cocktails courtesy of Centurion’s mixologist Jim Meehan and wines curated by Centurion’s wine director Anthony Giglio. Seasonal wine flights shake things up any time of year.

Dallas’ own James Beard Award-winning chef Dean Fearing has the eats covered with fresh, local dishes. Exhale will provide complimentary spa therapies.

When it comes to getting some work done before boarding, there’s the semi-private, dedicated work area with high-speed Wi-Fi, a computer bar and a conference room available for groups.

“We are excited to unveil the expanded Centurion Lounge at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport,” Josh McKay, vice president and general manager of global benefits and services at American Express, said in a statement.

“The American Express Centurion Lounge offers customers a new world-class option as they journey through the DFW Airport,” Ken Buchanan, executive vice president of revenue management at DFW said. “As we work to elevate the customer experience, we recognize the importance of providing customers with the amenities they want and need.

“Passengers looking to relax, enjoy fine dining, or catch up on some work during their time at DFW will be pleased to find all that and more at this new location.”

This is just the latest advancement in the trend of luxe airport lounges. The Centurion Lounge expansion is also headed to Denver, Los Angeles and JFK in New York. But Dallas gets the reimagined lounge first. That’s fitting — after all, Dallas’ Centurion Lounge is the flagship lounge that started it all.
