Dallas Stands Out as an Underrated World Shopping Capital: Seven Special Stores You Can’t Get Almost Anywhere Else

BY // 08.07.18

I’m a firm believer that Dallas is a shopping capital of the world. Seriously. Go to Barney’s or Bergdorf’s in New York and tell me how it compares to Neiman’s or Forty Five Ten. (The answer is sad and picked over.)

I once spent an entire day in the Mall of America wondering how it could call itself the Mall of America when NorthPark exists and is clearly way better. Honestly, I would even say the Dallas Galleria is preferable over Minnesota’s hyped mega mall.

With all the malls and new developments in North Texas, there’s no shortage of shopping options. If you want to find something really special, though, you might have to think outside of the box.

Today, we’re sharing seven of our favorite fashion boutiques across Dallas. These unique shops offer something for everyone – whether you’re looking for limited-edition sneakers, under-the-radar designers, or just a cute new outfit to wear this weekend.

Start window shopping…

Forty Five Ten

Forty Five Ten is certainly the largest store on this list, and its inventory reflects that. The company’s Downtown Dallas flagship store carries an impeccable selection of beauty products, men’s and women’s apparel, home goods, and more.

Need a stand-out gown for that upcoming gala, or a new go-to bag for fall? Look no further than 1615 Main Street. After you’ve made your way through three floors of goods, take a break at Mirador, Forty Five Ten’s rooftop restaurant.

Traffic LA at The Joule

If you’re looking for high-end designer apparel with an edge, head to Traffic LA at The Joule in Downtown Dallas. The small boutique, broken into women’s and men’s sections, slings hot, emerging designers like Heron Preston, Off-White, and Palm Angels alongside household names like Alexander Wang, Versace, Balmain and Raf Simmons.

Tenoversix

Tenoversix, which was recently purchased by Forty Five Ten, is the artsy kid of designer boutiques in Dallas. The store is stocked with billowing dresses, graphic T-shirts, statement earrings and unusual footwear from labels like Rachel Comey, Opening Ceremony, Maryam Nassir Zadeh, Annie Costello Brown and more.

Go forth and live the chic, minimalist life you were meant to live!

LF Store

LF’s only non-coastal store is in Dallas’ own West Village. The shop carries LF the Brand in addition to other fashion labels with a similarly playful aesthetic. Think Rihanna-worthy streetwear, cute summer dresses and one-of-a-kind recycled vintage.

It’s pretty pricey for what it is – a pair of the brand’s signature track pants go for $200 to 300 – but LF is actually having its only sale of the year right now, with much of the store 70 percent off. I went in to browse and ended up purchasing a truly ridiculous cropped windbreaker set.

Where to wear these kinds of things in Dallas is a question for another day…

V.O.D.

For over a decade, V.O.D. Boutique has been bringing indie designers from across the world to Dallas’ Victory Park. This spot is perfect for the easily-overwhelmed shopper. It offers clothing, shoes, accessories, and beauty – but the inventory is carefully edited.

The store carries labels like Isabel Marant, Vanessa Bruno, Caravana and more.

Shop September

Shop September is another West Village shop worth checking out. From beautiful basics to fun statement garments, there are lots of good clothes to be had here. The store’s overall style is a little bit adventurous, but still wearable enough to build a daily wardrobe from.

The store carries contemporary brands like Just Cavalli, Cameo, Keepsake, Saylor and Zagid & Voltaire.

Blank Canvas

Since opening up its original shop in Deep Ellum in 2017, Blank Canvas quickly became the coolest boutique in Dallas. The store carries artwork, home accessories, clothing and shoes from Euro-cool labels that are otherwise unavailable in Dallas. Blank Canvas has recently relocated to Downtown Dallas (2105 Commerce St), but it’s brought along the edgy-cool vibes of Deep Ellum with its trendy wares.
