Sustainable Fashion to be Showcased in Special River Oaks Pop-Up — Fox Holt is Coming

Floral Design, Piercing Experts, Intimate Shopping Experiences and More

BY // 10.11.21

Sustainable fashion is more than a catchphrase to entrepreneurs Dale Volpe and Katy Rowley, owners of the curated website Fox Holt and its upcoming pop-up shop spinoff in Houston’s River Oaks District. Veterans of the fashion industry (and newly transplanted Texans to boot), this stylish duo eschews fast fashion for fashionable clothing, home and beauty items that will endure for many seasons to come.

Fox Holt was born from the idea that we can live beautifully while still caring for our planet and its inhabitants by inspiring a movement towards more thoughtful buying practices. Every brand featured on the Fox Holt website and in-store for its two-week pop-up tells the backstory of how they came to embrace a more sustainable manufacturing practice. Each product also carries one or more emblems connoting designs that give back or are vegan, artisan-made, socially conscious and made with organic, recycled, or sustainable materials.

For example, select a made-to-order Wangari blazer ($219) by zero-waste clothing label Bastet Noir and you’ll get a custom jacket created with discarded materials (aka deadstock) made by a community of single mothers in North Macedonia. The entire profit then will be reinvested to fund the growth of women-owned businesses there and will support the education of the mothers’ offspring in a country where the average monthly income is less than $300.

Fruit Leather NYC is disrupting the leather industry by creating leather-like bracelets made from “Apple Skin,” an innovative material made with the upcycled waste from apple juice production. Alana Athletica claims it is the world’s first social impact activewear brand. Their mission is to impact the lives of women in Sri Lanka who have survived abuse. Alana partners with humanitarian organizations to educate, employ and empower women with job skills training, employment, self-defense training and education. While Hargan Denim’s repurposed denim deconstructs vintage jeans and reconstructs them to create one-of-a-kind denim pieces.

Aside from combing through their proverbial racks in-store, the Fox Holt pop-up will also feature several special events, from a fall floral workshop to a piercing party to designer meet-and-greet shopping fetes. It will be open from October 18 to October 31 in River Oaks District (across from Hopdoddy).
