What comes to mind at the thought of patchwork? How about jeans and quilts? What was once a humble hobby has designers from Roberto Cavalli to Tom Ford patching their way through their fall collection, connecting colors and fabrics that piece together perfectly. Mr. Ford took to his crafty side, allowing his imagination to run in the wild-child direction: “Oh, wow, I kind of pulled something out of my childhood!” refers to his fall ready-to-wear collection that includes denim skirts, showstopping statement coats and more velvety multicolored patchwork.
Inspired by the ’70s hippie era, the technique, which plays up different designs, colors and textures, has certainly come alive anew in updated luxe silhouettes. Patchwork fabrics tend to be heavier (think mismatched coats, sweaters, pants), making the trend a perfect vehicle for layering and bundling through the colder months. If you’re really feeling it, embrace the patchwork head-to-toe for a quirky and vibrant look.
Here, the best patchwork of the season.
