Uptown Dallas Latin Restaurant From Lombardi Closes After Two Years

This morning, the Dallas Morning News first reported that Mar y Sol, a Latin restaurant from Lombardi Family Concepts (Bistro 31, Maison Chinoise), just closed after two years in the former Abacus space in Uptown. Owner Alberto Lombardi told DMN that the restaurant wasn’t making money and that they only had business on weekends. Lombardi will instead try out his Victory Tap sports bar concept in the high-turnover space — Jasper’s closed after less than two years before —, which just debuted in Plano. He says he hopes to open by this October.

New Docent Steakhouse Will Finally Debut in the Harwood District This Fall

Announced over two years ago, this new Harwood Hospitality concept says it’s finally set to open this fall. It’ll open at Harwood 14 and be “a new Dallas steakhouse rooted in Texas hospitality, exceptional beef and genuine neighborhood spirit,” according to a press release. Like fellow Harwood steakhouse Stillwell’s, Docent will serve HWD Beef — Harwood’s exclusive premium beef program (featuring Akaushi cattle) developed through a partnership with ranchers in Texas, Oklahoma, and New Mexico. The restaurant will also feature a certified Kobe program, making it home to one of the largest Kobe programs in Texas.

Former The Mansion Restaurant Chef Is Named Culinary Director of Katz Bros. Hospitality

Almost two years ago, The Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek’s signature restaurant brought on Chef Charles Olalia as Executive Chef. He brought a multicultural approach to the menu, especially inspired by his Filipino background. Now, Olalia is taking over as Culinary Director at Katz Bros. Hospitality (Beverley’s, Clifton Club, Green Point, and Claremont). He will oversee all kitchen operations, creating seasonal menus and mentoring culinary talent.

“Having Charles as our culinary director signals a shift in the way we’re moving forward,” says Katz Bros. Hospitality founder Greg Katz in a press release. “We have really exciting things happening with our restaurants, including a new project to be announced soon, and Charles’s point of view and hands-on approach will be instrumental for our growth. We’ll be doing a lot of exciting things together.”
