Dallas’ Best Unexpected Holiday Events — the First Cowboys Christmas Spectacular Included: 5 Worthy Picks to Add to Your Traditional Staples

BY // 12.12.17

With less than two weeks until the jolliest day of the year, it’s officially time to embrace the holiday cheer. There are some time-tested Christmas traditions that Dallasites return to year after year – the trains at NorthPark, Highland Park Christmas carriages, the Texas Ballet Theater’s stunning rendition of The Nutcracker – but there are a few new holiday happenings you should add to your calendar, too.

Have you celebrated the season with your favorite football team, done yoga under the mistletoe, or had a Texas snow day? Start new holiday traditions at these five local events happening this week.

Mad Men Christmas Party

The Stoneleigh is opening its penthouse this weekend for another raging, retro party with DJ Blake Ward. The Mad Men Christmas Party takes place Friday night from 11 pm to 2 am. Grab your skinniest tie or your best party dress and join the conga line. Tickets are available online.

MistleFLOW

Deep Ellum Yoga is teaming up with Reunion Tower for a new series of gravity-defying classes titled SkyFlow in the tower’s GeO-deck, 470 feet above the ground. The series will kickoff with a holiday-inspired MistleFLOW class on Thursday, December 14 at 7:30 pm.

The event will include an hour-long vinyasa class, live music from a harpist, a photo booth, and post-class sips and mingling. Purchase tickets here; proceeds will benefit the North Texas Food Bank.

The Cowboys Christmas Spectacular

Fans of America’s Team will be happy to hear about the first-ever Cowboys Christmas Spectacular, a family-friendly, over-the-top holiday celebration at the Cowboys’ new headquarters. The Star in Frisco has been decked out and lit up for the occasion, and every Friday and Saturday through December 22 it’s hosting a special performance featuring the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, Dallas Cowboys Rhythm and Blue Dancers and Drumline and Santa himself.

High Tea for the Holidays

There’s nothing like having a cup of tea to wrap up a day of Christmas shopping – except, that is, having high tea. Indulge in an extravagant holiday tea service at the Alexander Mansion’s European Tea Room from December 13 to 17, at the French Room in the Adolphus, or the Taschen Library at the Joule. Reservations are required for all of the above.

Frisco Christmas in the Square

Frisco’s Christmas in the Square is another good reason to drive north this holiday season. There’s ice skating, more than 175,000 lights and lots of holiday music, but the biggest draw? Snow. Yes, the City of Frisco makes sure that Texans get at least one snow day this winter by manufacturing “snow flurries” every 15 minutes on Friday and Saturday in the square.

This Saturday, December 16, the city is taking the celebration up a notch at the Christmas in the Square Special Event Night, which promises a parachuting Santa, holiday vendors, an interactive snow play area, a four-lane snow slide and more. Find details on theFrisco Square website.
