Getting a jump start on the weekend antiques festivities at Round Top, the Farm Girls Supper Club donned their western boots, hats and stylish country threads for a delightful dinner night under the stars. As the sun set across the lake at antiques mecca Marburger Farm, close to 100 friends beckoned their inner country girl spirit.
The fourth annual Farm Girls event was as much a fashion frolic as a pleasant al fresco evening. Consider the charming assortment of denims, laces and floral frocks favored by the mostly feminine throng.
The small town western motif was embodied by the vintage 1959 camper The Traveling Spirit (aka mobile bar) which served specialty cocktails, the recipes of which were hand-painted on a fabric banner and cocktail napkins by Nancy Bihlmaier of Nancy B. Creative. For example, the chic clutch sipped on the Bumble Bee’s Knees (simple syrup, gin and lemon) and Carrot Margaritas (tumeric, ginger, carrot, lime and blanco tequila).
Vintage bamboo chairs, string lights overhead and the rustic backdrop of the farm buildings assured that on this night the stars in true Texas fashion would surely shine big and bright. The decor continued with one lengthy dinner table set with Belgian linens, mix-matched flatware, pottery plates and oversized French monogrammed napkins. Color floral arrangements spilling from champagne coupes and brass compotes completed the charming mise en scène.
The multi-course, farm-to-table seated dinner was orchestrated Farm Girls partners Marcia Smart of Smart in the Kitchen and Kelli Bunch of KB Table, prepared alongside chef Wade Schindler of Cotton Culinary and chef Devan Gernert of US Foods.
Smart and Bunch along with third partner Courtney Paddock joined Dwell with Dignity ’s Houston planning committee — Julie Dodson, Sharon Staley, and Suzanne Coppola — to raise funds on this evening for the local chapter of Dwell with Dignity, a nonprofit that helps families escape homelessness and poverty through design.
In a corporate twist on the annual fête, Bumble, the social and dating application based in Austin, sponsored the dinner and provided an 8-foot decorative wall stating “Make the First Move” and dressed it with conversation starter cards clipped to vines by mini clothespins.
