Jan Showers Celebrates 30 Years of Glamorous Dallas Design
An Iconic Design District Showroom, Unforgettable Kips Bay Rooms, and a Lasting Legacy
By Billy Fong //
Jan Showers is in the midst of a milestone. Her elegant showroom on Slocum Street in Dallas’ Design District — with its black lacquered door, boxwoods, and salons fashioned with the finest of 1940s glamour — is celebrating 30 years.
Jan Showers was still fine-tuning her new space when PaperCity launched its first Dallas edition in 1998, with no small help from the interior designer — in advice, hand-holding, and cheering. After majoring in business at Texas Christian University, where she reconnected with her future husband, Jim, Showers’ entry into the world of design was somewhat happenstance. Her first big job was her own home: the young couple’s three-story Colonial in Hillsboro. After the bon ton in town took notice, as well as those in Dallas … well, as the saying goes, the rest is design history.
Given our love affair with Jan Showers, we’ve written about her many times over the years, whenever she’s debuted a new Jan Showers Collection of furniture or designed additions to her Kravet Couture line, or when she’s allowed us a glimpse into a home she’s suffused with her glamorous imprimatur — “quiet luxury,” long before that term entered the vernacular.
One of the original advocates when Kips Bay came calling six years ago, Showers has designed two spectacular rooms for Kips Bay Decorator Show House Dallas, where she also co-chaired three times, served as honorary chair for two years, and was honored herself in 2025 at Kips Bay President’s Dinner. She was also the inspiration for a monthly column I used to pen, lovingly titled “She’s The Bomb.”
It’s only fitting that her four design books, which populate the chicest of coffee tables from Holmby Hills to Darien, are titled Glamorous Living, Glamorous Rooms, Glamorous Retreats, and The Glamorous House, the latter of which debuted in October 2025. All have become essential resources in the design world.
We’re celebrating this pearl on her pearl anniversary, taking a look at her most memorable rooms from the past three decades.
