Houston is a city ripe with gorgeous (yes, gorgeous!) bayous and peaceful trails that draw thousands of walkers, bikers, rollerbladers, and, of course, runners. Even though we’re already at the mercy of H-Town’s sweltering summer temps, the city’s resilient runners are still out and about, hitting the trails and exercising at all hours of the day to get in that extra mile or two. So with all this expertise running around, we need your help deciding which trail is the best in town. Buffalo Bayou
Buffalo Bayou is undoubtedly one of Houston’s most popular running trails. Between its plethora of cool(er) shady spots and dazzling Downtown views, this hot spot quite simply does it all. Be sure to have your phone on hand to capture that perfect ‘Gram.
Brays Bayou
Ah, Brays Bayou – the severely underrated trail (possibly since it’s mostly concrete?) that sneakily holds so much potential. The extensive route travels along and through some of Houston’s most iconic spots, including the Texas Medical Center, Hermann Park, and the University of Houston.
White Oak Bayou/Heights Blvd.
Do you prefer urban landscapes or shaded gravel trails? What if you could have both? White Oak Bayou offers the best of both worlds, giving avid runners access to killer Downtown views with the option to break away and travel down Heights Blvd.
Rice University
Just because you’re not in college doesn’t mean you can’t hit this runner’s paradise. Rice’s popular trail is a favorite among many, thanks to its glorious oak-lined gravel paths. Beat the trail to see some of the city’s greatest treasures that lie just north, south, east, and west of campus.
Memorial Park
Pass Memorial Park at any given hour, and you’re sure to see it packed with likeminded fitness fiends. The classic 3-mile route is a gorgeous arboreal retreat that oh-so-perfectly showcases Houston’s love for greenery. Memorial Park is ideal for runners of all levels: take a quick lap for a nice 3-mile jog, or toss in some extra laps to go the extra mile(s) .
