The Alexan Midtown Seeks to Stand Out from Houston’s Cookie-Cutter Party Pads

BY Chris Baldwin and Jailyn Marcel // 12.11.15

With more than 40 new luxury high-rise and mid-rise projects in various stages of construction in Houston, keeping up with the city’s vertical building boom requires much more than counting cranes. In this new PaperCity online series, we’ll look at all the top high-rises and mid-rises in various stages of completion throughout the region. During the coming months, we’ll give you looks at projects from The Woodlands to Galveston and all points between.

We’ll compare square footages, amenities, views from the top, luxe factors, walkability and price for the definitive guide to Houston’s new high life. You’ll find out about everything from the starchitects to the kitchen specs to the pet perks.

First up is the Alexan Midtown, a new building in the heart of Midtown. This place plants you smack dab in the center of Houston’s party zone — there’s no questioning the lure of the easy walks to the night-life scene and many casual restaurants. The Alexan is attempting to be so much more than the usual cookie-cutter, four-story mid-rises with parking garages that dominate Midtown, though. It seeks to stand out from the crowd as something more than just a high-priced party crash pad.

Consequently, there are some tech features and upscale perks not usually found in Midtown buildings.
