A Game-Changing High-Rise for The Galleria

Luxury Hotel, Plush Condos & a New Restaurant On Tap

Houston’s high-rise boom is under way, and The Galleria is getting in on the action. The mall’s parent company, Simon Property Group, has revealed plans for a combined 30-story residential tower and luxury hotel to join The Galleria’s offerings.

The new high-rise will sit on the corner of Sage Road and West Alabama St, a location that will give  residents some major luxury neighbors, including the remodeled 200,000 square-foot Saks Fifth Avenue location, which opens later this month, and Houston’s Uptown District, which is just minutes away.

“Simon’s commitment to this project speaks to its confidence in the Houston market and Uptown,” says Uptown Houston District president John Breeding. “This project will be a welcomed addition to our prestigious area known for fashion, fine dining and luxury living.”

The residential addition is right on track with Simon’s multi-million dollar transformation of the Galleria, which is undergoing a major interior revamp, including a new color palette, updated flooring and lighting and added seating. In addition, new retailers have opened their doors at the complex, including The Webster, La Perla and Tod’s — and Celine and Christian Louboutin are on the way.

“The Galleria attracts premiere brands that desire to be part of our enviable list of retailers and restaurants and take advantage of our strong market positioning and sales performance,” says David Contis, president of Simon Malls. “With 30 million domestic and international visitors coming into The Galleria annually, and retail sales among the highest in the nation, adding a luxury hotel and residential complex with global appeal is the perfect next step in the evolution of this iconic property.”

While Simon has yet to name a hotel partner, the building will house 225 hotel rooms on the first 15 floors, while the remaining upper levels will be filled with residential condos and penthouses ranging from 800 to 3,000 square feet in size. The building’s amenities will include a pool, health club and spa, media room, bar, private dining room (chef included) and a new restaurant.
