Jumping Into a Buzzing Restaurant Neighborhood

While the team is still mulling the culinary direction, chef Aaron Bludorn revealed plans to open his second Houston restaurant, this one in West University. In partnership with his restaurateur wife, Victoria Pappas Bludorn, and highly pedigreed manager Cherif Mbodji, Bludorn has signed the lease for the former Politan Row food hall space and expects to open with a new concept next summer.

If the singular success of the chef’s namesake restaurant is any indication, the new entity will surely gain its share of attention. During a recent visit with Bludorn and Mbodji, the duo hinted at great things to come. But were silent on specifics. Now we have it.

The second iteration will take over the 7,100 square foot space at 2445 Times Boulevard in Rice Village. The trio found the mid-century modern nature of the 1955 structure appealing as well as the walkable nature and physical charm of the West University area.

“From the moment we decided to relocate to Houston from New York, our goal was to open multiple concepts, and the opportunities we knew the city would provide to do that was key in choosing the Bayou City over other locations to plant roots,” Bludorn says in a statement. “We are so thankful for the unwavering support of a phenomenal team, who have created something incredibly special with Bludorn — against the odds of the pandemic – allowing us to take this next exciting step due to its success.”

The former Politan Row food hall building at 245 Times Boulevard is now in the hands of chef Aaron Bludorn, and his team.

The as-yet-to-be-named restaurant joins recent brand expansions that include Bludorn Catering and Events and Bludorn at Home.

It will be interesting to see what the Bludorn team comes up with for the competition in the neighborhood is fierce not only with the recently opened Gratify, which is packed on a nightly basis, but also other restaurants. The diverse dining offerings in the area include Coppa Osteria, Prego, Hamsa and Badolina Bakery & Cafe, Roma, El Mason, Café Rabelais, Hungry’s and Istanbul Grill & Deli.
