Family Guy Bar Comes to Life in Dallas — With Crazy Cocktails to Match

This is One Animated Hangout

The Drunken Clam, the iconic bar in the animated television series Family Guy, has taken over The Whippersnapper at 1806 McMillan Avenue for the entire month of January. The concept comes from Dallas-based This and That Concepts, which is also known for High Fives, Tiny Victories, Ferris Wheelers and the upcoming Dibs on Victory.

I visited The Drunken Clam on opening night. It was packed with Family Guy fanatics, some dressed up as the characters. I must confess, I hardly know anything about the show, except that there is a talking dog and man-baby named Stewie. But I was still entertained — for 10 or so minutes.

The best thing about the set up is the exterior. Even as a non-fan, I could appreciate how awesome the outside of the bar looked. Inside, quotes and photos of characters from the show cover the walls. Family Guy plays on Hulu on the television screens behind the bar.

The basic layout of The Whippersnapper is still there, just decked out in various Family Guy paraphernalia.

Giant nude photos of the characters Lois and Meg are the first thing to get anyone’s attention once you reach the back, seated booth area of the space. A disco ball and loads of fog set the divey ambiance.

To add to the immersive experience, themed cocktails were concocted such as Stewie’s Cool HWhip, which contains rum, blue caracao, Cruzan coconut rum and pineapple juice, all topped with whipped cream. Another option is Brian’s Martini with vodka, dry vermouth and three green olives.

I ordered the Ooooh Yeah Shot, which is a mixture of vodka, melon, amaretto and cranberry. Comparable to the taste and color of red cough syrup, it’s definitely for the sweet tooths, or maybe for someone who has a cold (forgive me). The big hit of the night was the 40-ounce “Peter Pawtucket Patriot Ale,” which is really Miller High Life and costs $10. This was cool and worthy of a post on your Instagram story.

The Drunken Clam pop-up will be open until February 2nd from 6pm to 2am Wednesdays through Saturdays. The Whippersnapper will then close for remodeling in for the bar’s 3rd anniversary.
