Fond of French food? Particularly La Table’s Loup de Mer Grille or the Houston restaurant’s rustic but refined herb roasted chicken? Then don’t make haste and reserve your seat before the lauded French restaurant closes this Saturday, July 2 for a complete makeover.

The Bastion Collection, which runs the Houston La Table along with 12 others in the United States and two in Europe, is collaborating with the Houston-based Berg Hospitality Group to reimagine La Table and create a different new Italian restaurant called Tavola at 6 Blvd Place that will share its current space.

The Bastion Collection operates elevated restaurants in New York, Miami, Geneva and Houston, including the fine dining restaurant Le Jardinier and its casual cousin Cafe Leonelli, both poised in the newest wing of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. Over the years, this lauded restaurant group has earned myriad Michelin stars, including those at the famed L’Atelier de Joel Robuchon, once helmed by the late chef long considered one of the most important chefs to emerge in France after the legendary toque Paul Bocuse.

“La Table is located in a prime Uptown location, and we are excited to add new life to the other end of the center,” Benjamin Berg says in a statement.

Berg is the CEO and founder of Berg Hospitality Group, which owns and operates eight restaurant concepts in Houston and Fort Worth, including Turner’s and The Annie Cafe & Bar, which are also both located in the same prime Post Oak retail center as La Table.

“The Bastion Collection’s world-renowned culinary knowledge and impeccable standards coupled with my team’s vision and concept development expertise will create and solidify a new lively dining and social scene at La Table and Tavola,” Berg’s statement continues.

We’re told the Berg and Bastion team plans to remodel the approximately 9,000 square foot, two-story space with all new interiors, lighting and furnishings which will house two new restaurants and aim to take guests on “a journey through the Italian and French Rivieras, pulling inspiration from Milan to Paris, and everywhere along the way,” says Sean Mohammed, senior vice president of Concept Development at Berg Hospitality.

Situated on the first floor, Tavola will be a new, upscale Italian restaurant serving lunch and dinner with a lively brasserie-style bar. La Table will get a revamped look and menu and be housed entirely on the second floor with the addition of a newly activated outdoor terrace.

“We are thrilled to announce this strategic partnership with Berg Hospitality as we combine our strengths to refresh La Table and create a new dining concept downstairs,” Bastion Collection executive vice president Michelle Upton says in a statement. “Ben and his team know how to capture the spirit of a restaurant and amplify it to its highest potential.

“That combined with Bastion’s fine dining expertise, we are confident that Houstonians will be there with us to celebrate the return of La Table and the opening of Tavola in February 2023.”

Construction for the project is slated to begin in the fall. The new La Table and Tavola are expected to open in the spring of 2023.
