Neon Kitten Will Bring Late Night Japanese-Inspired Cocktails to Deep Ellum This October
By Megan Ziots //
From the secret opening of a new upscale steakhouse to a late-night dim sum spot, these are three new Dallas restaurant openings to know about right now.
Tango Room
1617 Hi Line Drive
Just opened, this new modern steakhouse is located in the former FT33 space in the Design District. Tango Room is a new concept from Headington Companies (The Joule) offering an upscale dining experience. According to the good folks at Resy, where you can now make reservations, the wine list is curated by co-owner Simon Roberts of Graileys Fine Wines. Executive chef Chef Kylil Henson is cooking up a menu of NY strip, foie gras, and other classics, as well as some creative items like lobster corndogs and Peking duck.

Neon Kitten
2805 Main Street
Opening on October 1, this new Japanese bar and dim sum spot has taken over the former Beauty Bar space in Deep Ellum. Neon Kitten will serve late-night bites and cocktails on tap, including the Fukuoka (a whisky, vanilla, and soya sauce concoction) and the Sapporo (a citrusy bourbon cocktail). Created by a new Dallasite, Bhuvanesh “Bob” Khanna, the concept also offers dim sum, sushi, and izakaya. You’ll also be able to get your cocktail canned to-go if you like.
In mid-October, a speakeasy called Blackbird Society will also open in the back of the space to offer specialty cocktails made with Japanese spirits.

FireBird Fowl
2816 Fairmount Street
David Taylor and Tim Summers have launched their latest concept in Uptown. FireBird Fowl is a meat-forward restaurant focused on bird proteins like chicken and turkey. They also offer a few more adventurous options like duck, emu, ostrich, and Texas quail. A few menu highlights include emu fajitas, orange pepper duck tacos, The FireBird sandwich (Nashville Hot Chicken), and Cornish Game Hen Tikka Masala. Creators of DizziBrands, a boozy dessert concept Taylor and Summers will also be serving their Cinnamon Whiskey Apple Pie, Key Lime Margarita Key Lime Pie, and a Rum Soaked Cheesecake — 21-years-old and up only — desserts.
As for the space, there are two levels. The second level is called The Nest and features a more lounge-like experience with a DJ booth overlooking the main dining room downstairs. There are also three outdoor patios for al fresco dining. FireBird Fowl is now open for dinner with lunch coming soon.
