What: The inaugural Turn It Gold Foundation gala
Where: The Royal Sonesta Hotel
PC Moment: A Mardi Gras theme prevailed as a whopping 600 — couples and families — joined the party to raise funds for childhood cancer research and bring the issue to the forefront of public awareness. The Houston-based nonprofit was founded several years ago by Angela and Mike Dina, after their son was diagnosed with stage IV nueroblastoma and given only a 50 percent chance of survival. Today, Charlie Dina is an active, healthy youngster who attended the gala with his parents and his sister, Caroline.
With a focus of getting athletes involved in the program, special guests on this evening were Houston Astros All-Star Alex Bregman, Houston Texans chairman and CEO Cal McNair and wife Hanna, former Houston Texans Owen Daniels with wife Angela and Brian Cushing with wife Megan. Also joining the effort was former Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel and wife Bre.
With ladies dressed in purple, green or gold, several gents in gold jackets and decorations shouting Mardi Gras, the event raised more than $500,000 for the foundation. Getting the party started Bourbon Street style was the Hustlers Brass Band. Capping the entertainment was Danny Ray and the Acoustic Production.
PC Seen: Chairs Joslyn and David Paris, Jeannette and Brian Muecke, Lajeana and Chris Hardig, and Katherine and Clayton Gring; plus Drs. Sushma and Heresh Yalamanchilli, Renee and Steve Ash, Brooke and Cody Armbrister, Karen and Christian Brown, Melissa and Marc Dickson, and Taryn and Russell Jones.
