Plight of Homeless Animals in Houston Addressed by Some of the City’s Biggest Stars: When Caring is a Gift

PC Moment: The event toasted the 70 animal welfare related non-profits that received a share of Pet Set’s $400,000 gifting in 2017. Honored in absentia was former Houston Rockets owner Leslie Alexander, a well-known animal advocate, recognized for his service to the animal community both in Houston and beyond.
Loyal Pet Set supporter Jan Duncan was recognized for her continuing support of the non-profit that works throughout the year to protect defenseless animals.
The festive event was chaired by Tena Lundquist Faust and Tama Lundquist and Gina and Dr. Devinder Bhatia. Special guests were MLB Hall of Famer Jeff Bagwell and wife Rachel, who joined the Bhatias in presenting the winning raffle ticket for a Cartier Ronde Croisere watch. Thank you Deutsch & Deutsch for that generous donation.
Lending his voice to the cause was Stephen Klineberg of Rice University’s Kinder Institute, who noted, “We’ve been able to deal with the homelessness of humans, it’s now time to deal with the homelessness of animals. We need to do more research to determine precisely where and how the problem is evolving.”
