What: Museum of Fine Arts, Houston Glassell School benefit and art auction, “Back to the Future”

Where: Cullinan Hall in the MFAH’s Caroline Weiss Law Building

PC Moment: What better way to trip back in time than via a DeLorean, the dream car of the ’80s and the featured magical wheels in Back to the Future, the movie. That gull-winged wonder greeted guests as they headed toward the historic entrance of the museum. More than 30 years after the DeLorean era, many among the 240 guests stopped for nostalgic selfies with the car that was once thought doomed to extinction.

Traditionally held at the Glassell School and surrounding garden, the fundraiser, featuring artworks from both local and national talents, moved inside the museum proper while work continues on the new 80,000-square-foot school, designed by Steven Holl Architects. The building should be completed well in time to host the 2018 Glassell School benefit.

For this retro evening, The Swatchmen (as in Swatch watch) provided the goldie oldie tunes for dancing while old school party favors including snap bracelets and cool sunglasses added to the throwback night.

Guests grazed buffet style through City Kitchen offerings that included braised beef short ribs, oven roasted okra, Thai seafood curry, Bangkok chopped salad and tasty mezze.
