What: Legacy Community Health ‘s Mint Julep
Where: Rich’s Houston
PC Moment: A “Dancing Queen” on roller skates and the Montrose Softball League’s Houston Legends were newcomers to the 15th annual delightfully raucous afternoon in which lip-syncing and drag style were de rigueur. Another new performer to the colorful mix was Kelly Clarkson-Sanchez, lip-syncing to Lady Gaga’s sultury “Million Reasons.” RuPaul would have applauded as did the several hundred supporters who packed the Montrose nightclub.
Kudos to chairs Tony Bravo, Linda Cantu, and Ben Dillon and to honorees — The Diana Foundation (Miss Mint Julep), Jani Lopez (Ms. Mint Julep), and Bryan Hlavinka (Mr. Mint Julep). Legacy’s Katy Caldwell and Chree Boydstun welcomed guests that helped raise more than $88,000 in support of Legacy’s HIV/AIDS programs and services.
With Dreamgirls and Guys as the theme, the afternoon entertainment spanned several decades with the Legacy spin. Among those lip-syncing their hearts out were Mona Lott Gill, Crystal Rae Lee Love, Angela Mercy, JP Gill and the ever-popular Ginger Grant. The kaleidoscopic grand finale saw all of the performers on stage for their rendition of “Dreamgirls.” They were front and center in the fundraising effort for the free event at which guests were encouraged to give donations as plaudits for the performances and the waiters.
Who: Yvonne Cormier, Belinda Rowell, Cyndy Garza-Roberts, Lora Clemmons, Lauren Randall, Michael Dale and Dr. Robert Wolff, Amanda and Dr. Chad Lemaire, Megan Bailey, Sudy Samandari, John Pettiette, Chree Boydstun, Keith Dodd, Pam Buck, Joe Tate, Bob Lawson, Bob Burres, Steve Bretthauer, Daniel Maxwell, Dr. Suliat Nurudeen, and Dr. Kemi Nurudeen.
