Things just keep getting better and better for Houston Methodist for many reasons, not the least of which is the ever-increasing contributions from The Society for Leading Medicine, which in 2018 raised $8 million for hospital advancement.

The celebration of that record-breaking figure took place over dinner at Houston Ballet Center for Dance, where the donor program was launched with a cocktail reception in 2013. The contributions have been growing steadily since that early gathering. For example, members raised $2 million in 2014, the total was $3.9 million in 2016 and in 2017 the effort generated $5 million.

The connection with Houston Ballet is not accidental as the company’s executive director Jim Nelson addressed the ballet’s relationship with Methodist, which as official health care provider to the ballet ensures that dancers are well cared for in the medical arena.

Heading up the welcome was Ed Jones, Methodist Research Institute president and CEO, who introduced two physicians who shared the latest advances in their fields of expertise. Dr. Joshua Harris, associate professor of clinical orthopedic surgery, team physician for the Houston Ballet, head physician for the Houston Dynamo and consulting physician for Rice University took the spotlight along with Dr. Thomas MacGillivray, chief of cardiac surgery and thoracic transplant.

PC Seen: Event hosts Huntley and Dan Kubitza, Christine and David Underwood, Janet and Ernie Cockrell, Robyn and Embry Canterbury, Kelli and Eddy Blanton, Laura and Matthew Baird, Mel and Cathy Jodeit, and Mary Ann and David McKeithan.
