What: Seven Acres Jewish Senior Care Services ‘Footloose & Fancy Free’ gala

Where: Hilton Americas-Houston

PC Moment: The seemingly endless philanthropy of Sue and Lester Smith was celebrated in grand style with presentation of the Joyce Proler Schechter Spirit of Life Award to the generous couple. Of particular note on this evening was the $2 million history-making challenge grant the family foundation made last February to support Seven Acres’ recovery from Hurricane Harvey.

The award was presented by last year’s recipient Alan Helfman, who noted “Sue and Lester have given so much to so many organizations and causes over the years, too numerous to mention them all. They step up, time after time, when there is a need to make their community a better place. They are true pillars of the Houston community.”

In another, this time colorful, salute to the Smiths and their ballroom dancing expertise, four professional ballroom dancers strutted their stuff on a central dance floor that was soon filled with guests dancing as the Richard Brown Orchestra presented tunes for toe tapping. It was indeed joyously footloose and fancy free evening.

Leading the charge were chairs Sandy Rubin and Karen and Buster Freedman, honorary chairs Limor and Stuart Smith and Shelly and Brian Hendry, and auction chairs Judy Yambra and Michael Wiesenthal.
