What: Main Street Theatre “Big Do!” bash
Where: MATCH (Midtown Arts & Theater Center Houston)
PC Moment: Houston’s uber philanthropist Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale, in the spotlight as honoree, received several standing ovations throughout the somewhat zany, Groundhog Day celebration. The 200 mostly-costumed guests mingled through MATCH, spreading through the art gallery, across the breezeway and into the Matchbox4 Theater. Think wacky wigs, off-the-wall headwear and goofy groundhogs populating the colorful scene.
Entertainment included presentation of Groundhog Getaway, written by Zack Varela for the occasion and starring media celebs including Sunny 99.1 FM’s Dana Tyson and America’s Got Talent star Juan Carlos aka the Montrose Skater.
The evening raised more than $100,000 for the theater’s education and outreach programs, thanks to the efforts of chair Peggy Hull and her team.
Acting Up: Janet Covington, Ila and BG Patel, Rebecca Riley, Holly Beretto, Alice Berry, Ricky Polidore, Sarah Evans, John Marsh, Jan Claire Phillips, Jerry Kendall, Kat and Ken Liddle, Alyssa Schindler, Michelle James, Ellen and Robert Sanborn, and Denise Gaspart.
