Three Decades of Glamour

Jan Showers is in the midst of a milestone. Given her timeless beauty, wit, and jan de vivre, it’s hard to believe that her namesake Dallas Design District showroom is celebrating 30 years. Everyone at PaperCity has had a long friendship with this icon of the design world, given that our paths have mirrored one another — PaperCity Houston is in its 31st year and PaperCity Dallas in its 28th. Showers decided to throw a party at the Slocum Street showroom along with Kyle Bunting, he of the chic cowhide rugs, who was also celebrating a milestone — the 25th anniversary of his rug company.
As I snaked my way through the space trying to give a hug to my dear friend Jan, I was caught along the way numerous times by folks sharing their excitement for the upcoming Kips Bay Decorator Show House Dallas (President’s Dinner on Thursday, November 12 and VIP opening on Friday, November 13). In fact, I caught up briefly with Kips Bay Boys and Girls Club Director of Special Events and Corporate Partnerships Nazira Handal, who has been back and forth to Dallas from her base in NYC.

I finally made my way to the line of fans waiting to give a hug to the glamorous Showers. Yes, that’s the most apt way to describe her given the fact that her numerous books adorning the chicest of coffee tables from Holmby Hills to Darien are titled Glamorous Living, Glamorous Rooms, and Glamorous Retreats. The most recent addition to the Glamorous line of tomes was The Glamorous House, which debuted in October 2025. After a few minutes, which definitely wasn’t enough time, we promised to make a date for after the Kips Bay opening week festivities happening alongside Texas Design Week Dallas for a proper catch-up.
For those who only know Kyle Bunting’s hide rugs and not the origin story — Kyle had a childhood connection to hide since it was present all over the Bunting family from art pieces to tabletop furniture. His Austin-based firm’s mantra is “any size, any shape, any color,” which has enabled clients and designers to create pieces specifically suited for a space. Over the last quarter century, they have produced over a million square feet of hide carpets as well as partnering with over 3,000 designers and 300 core collaborators (Jan Showers is one of them). I caught up with Kyle for a moment to see how he was enjoying the evening, and he quickly responded, “Celebrating her 30th anniversary on Slocum Street, along with my 25th anniversary … it’s about as good as it gets.

Spotted amongst the legion of Showers and Bunting fans: designers Chad Dorsey, Shelby Wagner, and Trish Sheats; Pete West; Carla Hanz; Claire Emmanuelson, Loren and Alan Stalcup; Zara Taitt; Annaclaire Taitt, Stephanie and Michael Seay; Brooke Hortenstine; Kristie Ramirez; Ann Alford; Virginia Davis; Jan Shower’s family: Susanna and Palmer Moldawer, and son Matthew Moldawer with his wife Caroline Jones Moldawer and baby Palmer Moldawer, Elizabeth Showers, who has joined her mother’s firm; and Kyle Bunting’s family: Mackenzie and Thomas Bunting, Skyler and Jack Bunting and brother Mark Bunting.
