Rap Superstar to Headline a Houston Billionaire’s Luxe Galveston Gala
It’s Vegas on the Beach
By Sharon L. Taylor //
A fortnight before he performs at the 2016 Grammy Awards in L.A., mega-performer Pitbull makes a pit stop in Galveston to headline the 20th Anniversary San Luis Salute Gala. This powerhouse needs no introduction: He’s sold more than 5 million albums and 40 million singles worldwide, with No. 1 hits in more than 15 countries.
The renowned rapper has been enticed to town by event chairmen Paige and Tilman Fertitta, who celebrate two decades of supporting The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston with this annual extravaganza — the city’s largest gala. The sold-out evening, themed “San Luis Salutes Gotham City,” also promises the royal procession of the Knights of Momus court, a performance by the A-Town A-List Band, Vegas-style entertainment, cocktails, a four-course seated dinner and nonstop festive revelry. (This is carnival season, after all — and the Salute is a crown jewel in the annual Mardi Gras! Galveston celebration.)
Black tie and mask are mandatory for this masquerade-themed night, which honors Thomas A. Blackwell, M.D., and benefits the new Jennie Sealy Hospital at UTMB. Prepare to be dazzled — and serenaded by a star!
