BY // 04.11.19

What: Teach for America annual dinner

Where: Royal Sonesta Hotel

PC Moment: Fueling the movement for educational equity, Teach for America celebrated 28 years of providing the Houston area’s lowest income schools with a dedicated corps of teachers from the top rung of America’s college graduates. The Houston program began in 1991 with 141 corps members and today boasts 1,700 leaders who are powering changes in education.

Among the 400 guests were current corps members, alumni, staff and education advocates, many of whom joined the first part of the evening that featured a panel discussion with Teach for America alumni moderated by Rod Paige, former Secretary of Education. Dinner and further programming followed included the keynote address from Steve Mandel, Teach for America national board chair and founder of Lone Pine Capital, plus testimonials from Teach for America alumni and a student.

Chaired by Linda and George Kelly, the evening honored Cynthia and Ben Guill, Teach for America board chair emeritus.

PC Seen: Sofia Adrogué and Sten Gustafson, Soraya and Scott McClelland, Melba and Warner Ervin, Beth and Schuyler Tilney, Tamara and Michael Glickert, Ann Kennedy, and Jenny and Chris Johnson.
