This fall, the 16th annual “A Writer’s Garden” and the 25th Anniversary of A Woman’s Garden was celebrated at the Dallas Arboretum as part of the A Noble Celebration Week of Events. Events included a book signing, presentation, and VIP reception. A Woman’s Garden is the only public national garden constructed and maintained by women’s funding efforts made possible by the support of over 500 members of the Women’s Council of the Dallas Arboretum. This year, the Women’s Council celebrates its 40th Anniversary. Some noted past chairs included Marilyn Weber, Sandy Ammons, and Lisa Loy Laughlin.
The featured speaker was Lady Carnarvon, The Right Honorable Countess of Carnarvon. She is the author of many books, including her latest Seasons at Highclere, known as the filming site of the hit television series Downton Abbey. In case you were wondering, the Right Honorable Countess is a title traditionally granted to the wife or widow of a count in the United Kingdom. Alongside Lady Carnarvon were event chairs Dyann Skelton, Therese Rourk, and Donna and Herb Weitzman, who celebrated this year’s themes “Growing Friendships for 40 years” and “walk the paths of your beautiful garden.”
The floral-filled day began with a reception for VIPs at A Tasteful Place, home to hosting fabulous events around various topics at the Dallas Arboretum. This included photos with Lady Carnarvon ready for guests to post on Instagram, mimosas, small bites, and a coffee bar sponsored by Patti Mitchell and Kay Weeks. Treats included the appetizer, Chilled Parsnip, and Apple Soup, which was Lady Carnarvon’s recipe, followed by an entrée of Chicken Crepes with Creamy Mushroom Sauce, Parsley Wild Rice Mix, Texas Baby Greens, and a dessert of Molten Chocolate Lava Cake.
Afterward, guests strolled down to Rosine Hall for the presentation of her newest book. Seasons at Highclere gives readers access to life inside the current Highclere Castle’s land and estate from past and present. Following the presentation, guests enjoyed a luncheon and a personal book signing. Lady Carnarvon encouraged everyone to visit her blog at www.ladycarnarvon.com to learn more.
