This Sisterhood Fashion Brand Sure Knows How to Throw a Party: Arriving in Dallas With Girl Power Gusto

“Oh my gosh, Dallas…” Veronica Miele Beard says catching her breath as she, Veronica Swanson Beard, and I sneak off for a moment to chat. “I just love how people love to get dressed here. It’s not boring. Everybody’s bringing it!”

Looking out at the fashionable crowd at the Highland Park Village boutique’s grand opening, including Bradley Agather, Elizabeth Chambers Hammer, Nasiba Adilova, Claiborne Swanson Frank, Elisa Summers, and Lauren Johnson, Miele Beard’s observation couldn’t be more spot on.

“There’s also this excitement because we’re such a girl for girl brand,” Swanson Beard says. “We love when girls get excited to come out and see the clothes, hang out, have a party.”

After chatting about their design philosophy, their latest campaign, and their charitable giving initiatives, it’s clear that this spirit of sisterhood is truly the essence of the Veronica Beard brand.

The line’s hero piece, the Dickey, is the epitome of having women’s backs. Inspired by the ease and versatility of menswear pieces, the sisters-in-law created the easily interchangeable jacket to become the cornerstone of a woman’s daily wardrobe.

“Girls wear the same jacket all the time with a different Dickey… and it solves so many problems!” Miele Beard says. “When people tell us about it, it’s always the same high. It’s this connection — we figured this out and we understand how cool it is that we can share it.”

As mothers, designers, business owners, and much more, the Veronicas understand that women are anything but one-dimensional. Their Slash / Series campaign is all about celebrating their many sides, and showcases women like Carolyn Murphy, Laura Brown, and Maya Samuelsson.

“We want to celebrate what you do in your life that you love and that not everybody knows about. Women are so deep and complex, and we want to support them in all of the things that they do,” Miele Beard says.

“And often, the side that you’re not known for is the side that really drives who you are. And we think that that’s really the most fascinating part of women’s personalities,” adds Swanson Beard.

The designers say a big “slash” for them is their charitable giving side, something they have in common with many others and enjoy shedding light on through their VB Gives Back initiative. Each month, they highlight a woman and donate $10 from every online order to a philanthropic organization of her choice.

“We’re trying to inspire people and help give awareness to so much good coming from so many women,” says Miele Beard. “And we’re putting our money where our mouth is.”

When musing on their other slashes, Miele Beard listed her love of travel and sports, while Swanson Beard says she is a collector and home interior enthusiast. “And,” she adds, pointing to Miele Beard, “she’s a gambler!”

One final “slash” that they shared with most of those in the room: they love a good party. As bartenders served margaritas from behind the cash wrap and guests nibbled on tacos from La Botana Taco Bar, the sisters-in-law toasted to expanding their sisterhood to Dallas.
