Women of Courage
Queens of All Kinds Celebrated at This Sweet Awards Luncheon
By Sharon L. Taylor //
Hadassah’s Women of Courage Awards Luncheon welcomes Jill Connor Browne — author of the Sweet Potato Queens book series, which inspired the musical premiering in Houston in March — as this year’s keynote speaker. It’s a natural marriage of minds, as both Hadassah and Browne promote the empowerment of women, self-esteem and positive thinking.
Luncheon co-chairs Sharon Brier and Randee Kaplan join auction chair Debbie Gersh and solicitations chair Karen Buckwold for the event, which in its 11th year honors Linda Freedman Block, Houston’s multilevel Hadassah and community leader. Proceeds from the luncheon and silent auction benefit the Hadassah Medical Organization, whose clinical trials of stem-cell treatment have significantly slowed the progression of ALS.
Salute the keynote speaker by donning your best tiara and booking a queen-themed table with your friends. Cocktail Queens? Tennis Queens? Cuisine Queens? It’s your call.
