Massive New $78 Million Resort to Transform Texas’ Prettiest Town

Does Major Hotel and Shopping Village Mean a New Fredericksburg?

BY // 08.07.18

The winding hills of Fredericksburg have long been known as wine country. Before long, they’ll get an impressive new rep as wine and resort country.

Step aside, quaint bed and breakfasts. A major resort is moving into this charming paradise.

The new Seven Hills Resort and Conference Center is set to transform the Texas Hill Country (for better or for worse). The whopping $78 million project, a combination hotel, shopping mecca, conference center and beyond, is expected to be completed by 2020.

This is one of the largest construction projects in the history of the Hill Country — and it’s coming to the city that Architectural Digest recently named, “The Prettiest Town in Texas.”

Picture it now: a sprawling, upscale Fredericksburg resort at U.S. Highway 87 North and U.S. Highway 290 West. The project comes from Houston-based Murphree and Company, the Austin office of the Beck Group and Benchmark Global Hospitality.

The multi-million-dollar project will span over 22 acres, and include a 150-room, full-service hotel, a 35,000-square-foot conference center, a 40,000-square-foot food and shopping “village,” and more. A rooftop bar and outdoor amphitheater are also part of Seven Hills’ resort plans.

The hotel will be under the Hilton brand’s Curio Collection. There will be other lodging options in the complex, especially fit for those who want a more traditional Fredericksburg feel. A dozen new Sunday Houses — a popular guesthouse style in Fredericksburg — will be built, and the historic Klingelhoefer House will be restored.

The resort gets its name from Fredericksburg’s founder, John O. Meusebach, who once said he settled on land “between two creeks and surrounded by seven hills.” The look of the resort will be somewhat rustic, based on the renderings. Limestone, natural plants and glass tie it into the Hill Country surroundings.

One thing’s for certain. Seven Hills is sure to make a statement.
