Heartbreaking Abandoned Dog Video Gets a Happy Ending Thanks to a Houston Couple: Rejected Border Collie No Longer Needs to Make the Saddest Face Ever

A heartbreaking video of a discarded dog turned into a heartwarming story thanks to a Houston couple with plenty of love in their home.

It all started when a Houston Human Society video of a devastated dog kicked out of his longtime home went viral. The sad dog video went up just hours after the 7-year-old Australian Shepherd-Border Collie mix named Hunter was turned into the shelter.

Within the week, the saddened sweetheart was adopted by a couple from Spring Branch. David Miller and Larry Thomas took one look at the video and their decision was made.

“We saw the video of Hunter on Facebook, I think Larry’s sister Casey sent it to us. It was kind of game over from the start,” Miller says in a video interview on Chron.com. The adoption will literally restore your faith in humanity.

Hunter has been rechristened as Kenny, as in Kenny Rogers. It’s the perfect name to pair with the couple’s first dog, another Australian Shepherd-Border Collie mix. She goes by Dolly, naturally. You could say they’re Islands in the Stream.

The dogs are now living their best lives, which are documented on their shared Insta page, @kennyndolly.

But first, the first dog video. If you cry easily, be warned. This video is a tearjerker. Hunter nuzzles the Humane Society volunteer’s chest, looking completely dejected and broken. His previous owners say Hunter struggled to adapt to a new dog in their home.

Now, Hunter is a happy brother to Dolly.

“They look like twins, a yin and yang sort of thing,” Miller says.

The couple went to the Humane Society the very day they saw the video.

“We met Hunter then brought Dolly back for a meet-and-greet the next day,” Miller says. “It was kind of like they’d known each other for a decade.”

The seven-year-old siblings make quite the match.

There was an outpouring of interest after the video went viral, but this not some publicity play. Miller and Thomas are thrilled to have Kenny in their lives, but first and foremost they want what’s best for him.

“I knew there were a lot of people that were interested. All we cared about was that he had a good home with people that would love him,” Miller says.

The dog days of summer have never been so uplifting.
