Houston Symphony Ball Salutes Huey Lewis & The News
* ’80s Playlist
By Matthew Ramirez //
It’s hip to be square: This year’s Houston Symphony Ball is headlined by rock legend Huey Lewis & The News. Ball chairs Lisa and Jerry Simon and Sherry and Jim Smith have also invited Grammy and Tony Award nominee Michael Cavanaugh to serenade symphony underwriters during a seated dinner before the performance. All proceeds will benefit the Houston Symphony’s education and community programming.
We’ve previously saluted our favorite iconic left-of-the-dial ’80s tunes, but giving due props to monsieur Lewis, we decided to pay tribute to the decade’s most influential and recognizable sounds, from blue-eyed soul andadult-contemporary singer/songwriters to new wave (as well as post-new wave) pop acts.
