Beloved Dallas Bookstore to Reopen Just a Month After Tornado Completely Destroyed its Store — Interabang Finds a New Home
Starting From Scratch, Book-Loving Team Pulls Off a Remarkable Return

After an EF-3 tornado completely wiped out Interabang Books at Preston Royal during the horrific storms that rocked Dallas October 20, the local favorite bookstore is set to open a new, temporary location at the Pavilion on Lovers Lane this week.
In a collaboration of hustle and eagerness, the Interabang crew, including partners Nancy Perot, Kyle Hall and Lori Feathers, found a temporary space to call home just a few days after the tornado struck.
Encouraging customers to continue to support the store by purchasing their books from it online, Hall tells PaperCity that the company has stayed busy over the past month, contrary to what you would think would happen when your store gets destroyed by a tornado.
“We have a crew of people who are really eager to get back to doing what we do,” Hall says. “My goal was to be back in business a month after the tornado.”
As for the temporary location, Hall says that they are exploring on staying long-term if possible. They’d like to return to Preston Royal, but the rebuild of that shopping center could take a year or even longer.
Along with the space, Hall says that Interabang didn’t get to reclaim anything. They had to reorder their entire inventory system, as they lost their hardware and software. No office supply, paperclip or otherwise, was left over.
“We’ve purchased new display cables and store fixtures,” Hall details. “Even toolkits.” They also lost the tools needed to reassemble things in the tornado.
Loyal customers have played a big part on keeping the motivation going.
“We discovered the depth of feeling amongst customers,” Hall says. People want to see their favorite bookstore back up and running and online orders have played a huge part in ensuring that Interabang did not have to sit idle for too long.
And book lovers won’t have to wait too much longer to shop in-store again. The new Interabang location plans to be open by this Thursday, November 21 at 5600 W. Lovers Lane, Suite 142, right next to Paciugo.
Dallas designer Lisa Fine will stop by at 2 pm on Thursday to promote her new book, Near & Far: Interiors I Love., with photographer Miguel Flores-Vianna and his own book called A Wandering Eye.
