Swiss Fashion Makes a River Oaks Impact
Sleek New Store Targets Sophisticated Texas Women
By Francine Ballard //
Less-is-more devotees, rejoice: Your go-to label has landed in Houston.
Akris, the Swiss brand known for fine embroideries and clean lines, has opened in River Oaks District to a quiet summer audience. The shop, with its signature curvilinear maple-wood wall in white and matte-marble floors, is a cool compound for its main label, as well as the more casual Akris Punto. The fall collection is inspired by a family safari, loaded with colors of the savannah, Kenya and Tanzania, embroideries and patterns mimicking tortoiseshell and grooved elephant skin, necklaces influenced by the Maasai, and rugged lug-soled boots.
Creative director Albert Kriemler says of their seventh United States store, “It’s a tribute to [Houston’s] sense of style, where I look forward to offering the entire world of Akris to the next generation of sleek, chic Texas women.” To show their appreciation, Akris has created the Ai horsehair messenger in burgundy ($2,990) — available exclusively at the Houston store this fall.
