The Most Beautiful Coffee Shop in Texas

Is Houndstooth Coffee the most beautiful coffee shop in all of Texas — and one of the most beautiful in all of America? Architectural Digest certainly thinks so.

The national magazine released a list of the best-designed coffee shops in every state and and named the Sylvan Thirty location of Houndstooth its favorite in Texas. The Austin-based company opened its stunning Sylvan shop in Oak Cliff in 2016, and now has a total of three coffee shops in Dallas. The Sylvan Thirty location is Houndstooth’s largest, and is connected to a cocktail bar named Jettison. 

This isn’t the first time the coffee shop has been recognized for its good looks. It previously won the 2016 AIA Dallas Built Design Honor Award, not to mention the 2017 PaperCity Design Award for Hospitality Interior Design.

What makes the café so lovely? According to Architectural Digest:

“A soaring ceiling with an accordion effect and an all-white interior (with pops of heather gray) at Houndstooth Coffee’s Sylvan location… make the floating island — where all java drinks are made — pop. Painted steel, perforated steel, and quartz lend an urban edge.”

We have to agree that the modern design and clean palette make Houndstooth a dreamy spot for a coffee break – maybe even our favorite in Dallas. There are a few other honorable mentions we want to throw out there, though.

Magnolias: Sous Le Pont takes the cake for the cutest coffee shop in town, with its cheerful turquoise facade and French charm. Wild Detectives might be the coolest – we love its hipster-homey feel. Just walking into Brewed+Pressed and seeing the mossy “ART OF NOURISHMENT” sign makes us feel healthier. Downtown Dallas feels decidedly more downtown with the arrival of pretty, blue-tiled Commissary. We could go on…
