Austin’s Coolest New Hangout is a Cocktail Bar That Doubles as a Decor Store
You've Never Seen Anything Quite Like Jules Design Bar

For the design obsessed like myself, inspiration sparks everywhere. The gas station from the 1950s. The newly remodeled French bar opening on my block. Numerous design blogs.
Jules Design Bar, a speakeasy cocktail lounge that doubles as an interior decor store, just opened at the Hill Country Galleria. A dream come true for interior decorator obsessives like myself, this new store means the chance to sip craft cocktails or wine while marveling in the store’s beautiful design.
The truly special part is everything in the bar, from furniture to lighting and more, is available for purchase.
Jules will also function as a full bar and event space, with owner Julie Smith available for interior design consultation, along with creative workshops, wine tastings, live weekend music, trivia nights and more.
As a architectural and interior designer specializing in renovations for many years, as well as a furniture retailer, Smith is putting her vast knowledge of design to work in her new space.
“Design and construction has been my life since I was 19”, Smith tells PaperCity. “A year ago, I moved to Texas to be near my daughter and grandson and knew I was ready for a new challenge.
“I am a person who always does things relatively big and with great passion, so having a craft cocktail program and growing an amazing wine and whiskey presentation is important to me.”
Smith tells us that the bones of the space shouted her name the first time she visited the location, and the classes Jules’ will be offering are an extension of her passion for design, featuring various designers, architects, builders, realtors and local artisans.
The cocktail menu will be finalized in March, with the help of local bartenders. For now, cocktails — including the Waterloo Fashioned with Waterloo No 9 Gin, St Germain, orange bitters and Richard’s Sparkling Rainwater, and the Austin Old Fashioned with Texas Whiskey, Peychaud bitters, rosemary infused simple syrup and garnished with a maraschino cherry, orange peel and sprig of rosemary — are served alongside a selection of specialty wines and whiskeys.
Smith opened her first retail store in 1995, sourcing from many countries and domestically over the years. Jules Design Bar will feature her favorite lines from her 20-plus-year history in design.
