The Woodlands’ Pumpkin Stylist Makes Halloween Displays Truly Pop — Getting a Professional For the Spooky Season

Decorating for the holidays goes far beyond Christmas these days. Halloween decorations are hotter than ever and they are already popping up in The Woodlands. But it’s not enough to drop a few gourds on the ground anymore. The Woodlands’ Marisa Goldsmith is raising the Halloween decorating bar, working more magic with pumpkins than a fairy godmother.

Goldsmith’s Bibbidi Bobbidi Stoop turns seasonal styling into an art.

“I started this little business on a whim last year,” Goldsmith tells PaperCity The Woodlands. “I’ve always loved decorating with heirloom pumpkins in the fall. Last year‘s season was super successful. And I’m hoping to have a very busy season this year as well. When I started, I was craving something creative and this has given me a very good outlet for that.

“From marketing, design, and just being able to meet a bunch of people in this area, it has been such a pleasure.”

While the calendar may say the first official day of fall is September 22, temperatures don’t cool off much before Halloween in Texas. That means the pumpkins Goldsmith selects and displays need special care.

“First, we wash and treat the pumpkins with a water vinegar solution to remove dirt and debris,” Goldsmith says. “That helps them last and keep critters away. It’s a back breaking process, but absolutely worth it.”

In fact, it’s so effective that last year’s pumpkins became part of her Christmas display.

“Last year, most of my pumpkins that I set up on my porch lasted through the holidays,” Goldsmith says. “I actually spray painted them red and green and set up a Christmas display in my front garden.”

A Pumpkin Queen

Goldsmith has both residential and retail clients, with restaurants, stores and hotels tasking her to put together their pumpkin displays. Her pumpkin packages come in a variety of sizes, and she’s happy to help pick the right size for the installation. Package prices for this pumpkin styling and display work run $375 t0 $1800. Available add ons include corn stalks, straw bales, mums and Grand Prize pumpkins that weigh 100 pounds.

So how does one become a pumpkin queen?

Goldsmith grew up in Pleasantville, New York and studied design and managment at Parsons School of Design in New York City. She moved out of New York and traded the fashion world for art sales in 2014.

As a military spouse she moved several times around the country, with her work taking her all over as well. She finally landed in The Woodlands a few years ago. And started channeling her creativity into pumpkins.

It all sounds like magic coming to life.
