Shuttered Uptown Restaurant Space to be Reborn as a More Affordable Fine Dining Spot
Dallas' Newest Jasper's is Something of an Experiment
By Megan Ziots //
After being a Dallas staple for 19 years, Knox Henderson restaurant Abacus shuttered in May. There was mystery surrounding what the 4511 McKinney Avenue location would become next. And now we know. Jasper’s Uptown is taking over the space and is already open for dinner.
An outpost of the Texas chophouse in Richardson, this location is owned by the same company called Abacus Jaspers Restaurant Group. The former Abacus space was renovated into a more open concept by knocking out a wall and expanding an existing bar. New lighting and furnishes have been added and there are plans to add an outdoor patio.
Chef Chad Bowden, tenured chef at Abacus, is leading the new Jasper’s scratch kitchen. A more affordable twist on fine dining, Jasper’s Uptown will offer some of the upscale chain’s favorites, as well as some bites that were on the Abacus menu. These include the famous Abacus Lobster Shooters and a sushi menu.
As a kind of experimental kitchen for other Jasper’s locations, the Uptown spot will offer some different items not available at any other Jasper’s.
Classics from the Richardson and The Woodlands restaurants include the Slow Smoked Baby Back Ribs and Blue Cheese Potato Chips. There will also be some new creations such as the Spicy Melon Salad, Prince Edward Island Mussels, Late Summer Squash Angel Hair Pasta, and a Coal Charred Ribeye.
For “Backyard Fare” entrees, Jasper’s is also cooking up a Sweet Chili Rubbed Rotisserie Chicken, Filet Mignon, Grilled Cervena Venison, Pan Seared Scottish Salmon, Hardwood Grilled Pork Tenderloin, and Pan Roasted Gulf Redfish Oscar. Sides are available to add on such as mac & cheese with Gouda and ham, coriander glazed carrots and jalapeno charred corn.
Dessert options are between lemon meringue creme brulee and a peanut butter mousse chocolate cheese cake. And the wine list has been adjusted with Napa Valley brands to contribute to those lower prices. Some of the Abacus wines are available on request though.
Jasper’s Uptown is now open for dinner Tuesdays through Thursdays from 5 pm to 10 pm and Saturdays and Sundays from 5 pm to 11 pm. Lounge hours begin at 4 pm with happy hour ending at 7 pm. Lunch times will be introduced later on.
