Fort Worth’s Best Burgers — Old and New Spots That Get it Right

When Just Another Hamburger Joint Won't Do

BY Ashley Madonna

Just thinking about sinking your teeth into a stacked, juicy burger  can get mouths watering. Whether it comes covered in melted cheese or unconventional toppings, a quality burger has a few things in common: an excellent patty, top-notch buns and tasty toppings.

Thankfully, Fort Worth is chock-full of burger joints just waiting to satisfy your cravings. These are Fort Worth’s best burgers:

Rodeo Goat

2836 Bledsoe & Currie Street

With topping options ranging from herb goat cheese to green chili chutney, Rodeo Goat proves that quantity and quality can go hand in hand. Its menu is filled with a plethora of burgers, each offering a new twist on classic flavors. Rodeo Goat also enjoys trying out new flavor combinations with its Burger Battles, where two menu offerings go head to head for customer votes.

Whether you come in and try something new every time or find a favorite a stick to it, each trip to Rodeo Goat promises something exciting.

For a Fort Worth classic known for its subtly sweet buns, a trip down to Dutch’s is a must. The self proclaimed burger and beer cafe has been serving up comfort food for more than a decade, and it has built a beloved fan base over its tenure.

With simple signatures such as the Dutch adorned with traditional toppings and playful options such as the Vaquero Burger featuring fried onion and jalapeno strings, bacon, shredded cheddar, barbecue sauce and chipotle mayo, there really isn’t a wrong choice at this Fort Worth burger haven.

Fred’s Texas Cafe

915 Currie Street

Made with 100 percent Black Angus chuck and served on a grilled bun, Fred’s Texas Cafe’s burgers provide all the hearty flavors you expect with quality American food without any of the pretentiousness.  You can come in, order a fun find like the Tamale Burger, topped with a chipotle pork tamale, refried beans, creamy jalapeno sauce, Oaxaca cheese and pico de gallo and wash it all down with a cold beer.

And with more distinctive topping options, including Dr Pepper candied bacon, lime mayo and Billy Jenkins Bock caramelized onions, it’s safe to say Fred’s burgers stand out from the competition.

Chop House Burger

300 Thockmorton Street

If you are a proud believer that a burger is only as good as its meat, then Chop House Burger may be your new go-to. By not only serving quality Angus beef patties but also ground turkey, free-range chicken, sushi-grade tuna and falafel options, all the choice is in the diner’s hands.

And with refined flavor pairings like the Wine Country’s goat cheese, honey mustard, arugula, shaved red onion and tomato and the Ahi Tuna Burger’s wasabi mayo, pickled ginger, nori chips and arugula, every creation provides a bright balanced bite.

Hopdoddy Burger Bar

2300 W. 7th Street, Suite 140

It’s safe to say the Fort Worth burger scene changed for the better when this Austin-based burger bar opened on West 7th.  Hopdoddy boasts a wide range of flavorful burgers, each featuring handmade buns and patties. Those interested in trying something new should order one of Hopdoddy’s impossible burgers – made entirely of plants.

This vegan alternative will have you questioning what your really missing out on. Or, for a daring burger, try out the El Diablo topped with habaneros, serranos, salsa roja and chipotle aioli. Just be sure to have something to wash it down with before diving in.
