Creative New Chinese Restaurant Spices Up Dallas’ Late Night Dining Scene: And Dim Sum Brunch is on the Way

In the Greenville Avenue space that once housed beloved restaurant Remedy — which closed at the end of 2016 — there’s a new American-Chinese restaurant that’s anything but purely traditional.

Gung Ho, a concept from 8020 Hospitality founder Elias Pope (the man behind HG Sply Co.), boasts inventive fare from executive chef Kirstyn Brewer, whose CV includes the now-shuttered Victor Tangos.

Case in point: Pickled veggie eggrolls, Won Ton soup with braised bacon, cumin-marinated lamb shoulder, and Char Siu Pork with steamed buns all grace the menu.

The restaurant’s drinks are just as creative as the meals they complement. Think bold Asian flavors and spices in huge “Scorpion” bowls made to share (like the Hello Hong Kong, $55, with vodka, yuzu sake, plum brandy, raspberries, lemongrass and lemon).

Or, settle for a cocktail, like the When Pigs Fly ($10): fig-infused rum with a five-spice syrup, and lemon and orange bitters.

From vibrant turquoise bar chairs to enormous glittering chandeliers, Gung Ho’s interiors are also a sight to behold. A private room right off the bar is wrapped in red floral wallpaper and features a long wooden table — a luxe sanctuary away from the bustle of the main dining spaces.
