Within the Land of Trees — Neighborhood Bar Finds New Life With Majestic 130-Year-Old Oaks Setting the Tone

The canopy of five majestic 130-year-old live oak trees give the revamped Live Oak Grill in Spring Branch a vibe of its own.

Night Moves Hospitality, the collaborative hospitality collective behind Space Cowboy and the Trash Panda Drinking Club, are joining Live Oak owner John Ganim in relaunching this two-decade-old neighborhood bar and restaurant this Friday, October 15th. To celebrate the all-new menus, food and drinks will be half off all day Friday.

Set upon a nearly three-acre lot shaded by those aforementioned sturdy oaks is a historic home built circa 1915. Ganim purchased the property at 10444 Hempstead Road in 2001 and had grand plans to level it all and build a warehouse, but he just couldn’t bring himself to do it.

“Live Oak Grill will be unlike our other Night Moves concepts,” owner Greg Perez says. “We want to create an inviting, everyday neighborhood bar with an emphasis on friendly service, ice cold beer, cocktails and good food. This will be a place for families.

“For lunches and happy hours. The first stop before a night on the town or a nightcap on your way home.”

There are 20 beers on tap, frozen cocktails and a drinks menu that includes tinctures like a pear Moscow mule and cucumber mojito. While the food menu consists of Texas pub-style fare like a chicken fried steak, a shrimp po’boy, a pulled pork sandwich and boudin balls.

Built with an expansive patio that accommodates 80 people where one can play lawn games or catch the latest sports on the TV and projector screens, the property even includes a family-friendly outdoor playground, which is open daily until 8 pm.

Live Oak Grill is located just off US 290, and the 610 West Loop North near Karbach Brewing Co. It will be open seven days a week from 11 am to 2 am.
