Shooting Clays Event Raises Major Cash for Disadvantaged Kids
By Kelly Schafler //
If you’ve been itching for a little friendly competition, the Alley Theatre’s 14th Annual Sporting Clays Shoot has you covered — and all for a good cause. Proceeds from the event benefit “Houston’s at-risk and disadvantaged youth” by fostering new opportunities for “self-expression, personal growth and career development.” The Alley Theatre’s program, Alley’s Artistic and Educational Endeavors, helped nearly 80,000 students last year through programs such as Staging STEM, school tours, and in-school arts integration residencies.
Co-chairs for this year’s event are Jeff Birmingham and Trent Tellepsen. It is Birmingham’s first year as a co-chair and Tellepsen’s second year.
The event begins with a lunch buffet provided by Coronado Club, featuring wild-game and seafood dishes. Following lunch, guests will shoot from their stations and participate in a flurry competition. While the winner of the flurry competition is being tallied, guests can enjoy a shooting game called Mixology for a chance to win jewelry donated by Deville Fine Jewelry & Diamonds.
First and second place awards will be given for the Team Flurry Event, and guests can stick around for a cocktail reception. Participants register in groups (or teams) of four shooters.
Sponsors for the event include PaperCity, the exclusive media sponsor, as well as BB&T, Silver Eagle Distributors, Butch Mach and Mach Industrial Group, and MetroNational as corporate sponsors.
