Intense Cookoff Reveals Some Surprise Winners, Thrills a Mammoth Crowd

What: 7th annual Houston Kosher Chili Cookoff
Where: The Evelyn Rubenstein Jewish Community Center
PC Moment: More than 3,000 attendees swarmed over the scene where 34 teams competed for top honors, which went to the Aishel House “Holy Chili Peppers” team. Celebrity judges included New 93Q personality Al Farb, City Councilwoman Ellen Cohen, PBS’ Ernie Manouse, City Councilman Larry Green and Ruchi Mukerjee of Lights, Camera, Action. Entertainment throughout the family-friendly afternoon included the Danny Gavin Band and the Young Kletzmer Band. The Friendship Circle/Chabad Outreach/Chai Learning Center of West Houston won second place and ranking third was the Congregation Emanu El Boy Scout Troop 1190 team. Seven Acres Jewish Senior Care Services won the Showmanship Award and the People’s Choice award went to the Greene Family Camp.
