Competing Opera Singers Wow a Sellout Crowd

What: Houston Grand Opera‘s 29th annual Concert of Arias
Where: Wortham Theater Center’s Cullen Theater
PC Moment: The most glorious musical benefit of the season did not disappoint with a concert of eight talented opera singers, culled from a national contingent of 457 applicants, who competed for honors and financial reward. They wowed the sellout crowd that helped raise more than $600,000 for the HGO Studio. Countertenor Aryeh Nussbaum Cohen received first place honors and $10,000. Five additional awards were presented. Highest acclaim went to the evening’s honoree, Beth Madison, with praise delivered to chairs Judy and Richard Agee. A festive late-night dinner followed in the Grand Foyer where City Kitchen worked its culinary magic.
