What: Children’s Museum of Houston 35th Anniversary Gala Back to the ’80s.
Where: Silver Street Studios.
Who: Chairs Courtney and Bill Toomey and Carmen and Butch Mach; underwriting chairs Krystal and Garrett Thompson; board prez Geoff Bracken with wife Shelley, Harry and Cora Sue Mach, Lisa and Eric McCarthy, Nancy Bihlmaier, Ting and John Bresnahan, Candace and Brian Thomas, Kathy and Marty Goossen, and Katherine and Paul Murphy.
PC Moment: Days after Back to the Future Day, Marty McFly and Doc Brown (as portrayed by Paul Latino and David Born) touched down to Silver Street Studios in their DeLorean to party down for the ’80s-themed gala. Bodacious decor included a Pac-Man dance floor, MTV music videos playing on big screens, and vintage video game machines. After bidding in the silent auction, guests were treated to a multi-course seated dinner from Jackson and Company which culminated in whimsical desserts of Jawbreakers cake and Mr. and Mrs. Pac-man lemon mousse. Five hundred revelers — nearly all dressed in their finest ’80s formal attire — rushed the dance floor to sing along with The Spazmatics whiles sipping on cans of TAB. Guests bid excitedly on exotic trips, an opportunity to go on the Texans’ private jet, and a precious labradoodle puppy, but all ears were on the announcement of the big winner of the raffle, who received a Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust watch (valued at $19,500) from Deutsch & Deutsch. All in, the evening raised over $1.1 million — impressive for a night that included torrential downpours thanks to Hurricane Patricia.
