Deep Ellum’s Favorite Alt Hip-Hop Group Unveils Debut Album in Major SXSW Showcase: Cure for Paranoia Breaks Out Amid the Chaos

From its humble beginnings as four friends on a quest to take cover from the apocalypse to becoming Deep Ellum’s favorite alternative hip-hop group, Cure for Paranoia has come a long way in two short years. The four musicians have something substantial to show for their “doomsday road trip” to the Four Corners — an up-and-coming music group and their self-titled debut album, Cure for Paranoia.

Cure for Paranoia: Side A, just a taste of the complete work, was released on March 15 at 11 p.m. — the group’s set time for their SXSW showcase at The Parish in Austin. The album itself was originally composed for vinyl, with four songs that make up Side A. The band says that each subsequent “side” will be released separately – likely with the intention to keep the classic element of vinyl as part of their distinct image.

The band’s sound lends itself to the old-school aesthetic, but it’s infused with a modern funk that has captured the attention of musicians like Erykah Badu and provides clarity to listeners and band members alike – like Cameron McCloud, who suffers from bipolar paranoid schizophrenia. The sound, coupled with the medication-heavy imagery of their album covers and promotional posters, provide a clear indication of the band’s message: solace in the midst of chaos — in short, a cure for paranoia.

Though their musical endeavors have brought them far in the Dallas music scene, the group maintains their roots within their live performances.
