Ozark Star’s Roaring Into Dallas for Texas Trailblazer Awards
Laura Linney to Deliver a Personal Speech
BY Megan Ziots // 07.23.19Known for her roles in Ozark, Tales of the City, Mystic River and Love Actually, Emmy-award winning actress Laura Linney will be making a high-profile trip to Dallas this fall. Linney will give the keynote speech at the 23rd annual Texas Trailblazer Awards Luncheon at Omni Dallas on October 4.
The awards are hosted by Dallas-based family violence agency, The Family Place. The organization, co-chaired by Marjon Henderson, Marisa Howard and Samantha Wortley, empowers victims of family violence by providing housing, counseling and skills.
Since 1996, the Texas Trailblazer Award has honored those who create positive change in the community and the luncheon is the organization’s largest educational event. Linney will share her personal connection to The Family Place’s mission. This year, the organization is celebrating women’s empowerment and strong females who make an impact in Dallas.
“2019 is the year of women making headlines: The U.S. women’s soccer team delivered a history-making performance, more females are in U.S. Congress now than ever and women are rising to the top in corporate America,” Family Place CEO Paige Flink says. “There’s much to celebrate, but more work to do.
“One in three women suffer abuse in their lifetime and are vulnerable to domestic violence and sexual assault. We’re working to change that statistic. 41 years ago, three women started The Family Place, and now we are serving over 10,000 clients a year.”
The awards will be presented to five female CEOs of Dallas companies, including Beth Garvey of BG Staffing Inc., Mandy Ginsberg of Match Group, Kim Lody of Capital Senior Living, Melissa Reiff of The Container Store, and Jill Soltau of JCPenney. Lavinia Masters will also be honored for her efforts to pass legislation to protect sexual assault victims.
