Giant Garden Party Grips Fashion Week: Kids Share Center Stage in Badgley Mischka’s Anniversary Wonderland

NEW YORK — For a special occasion, Badgley Mischka threw a memorable party at New York Fashion Week. Design duo Mark Badgley and James Mischka celebrated the label’s 30th anniversary with an Alice in Wonderland-themed party and runway show that highlighted adorable mother-daughter pairs in matching party dresses and ended with an Instagrammable confetti drop.
Badgley and Mischka labeled their show “Through the Looking Glass,” transforming the space into a giant garden party, with pastel-clothed tables (each with a bucket of iced champagne) along a runway festooned with gigantic trees and oversized paper flowers in a variety of colors.
In keeping with the anniversary theme, the designers presented 30 looks, ranging from a lavishly embroidered jacket and pants combo to a sexy, super-short minidress covered in three-dimensional silk flowers and a smart-looking pink and white plaid trench coat.
Glamorous red carpet gowns have long been a Badgley Mischka specialty, and the designers delivered with looks that included a power blue gown trimmed in feathers, a slinky metallic fringe column gown, a shimmery silver gown trimmed in pink, and an off-the-shoulder gown in a soft pale lavender shade.
But the highlight was a series of whimsical bejeweled floral gowns for adults and children. Hearts melted as models came out hand-in-hand with youngsters dressed in similar-themed party dresses. It’s part of a children’s collection of special occasion outfits (for ages 4 t0 14) that Badgley Mischka is introducing next month on its website and at Nordstrom and Dillard’s.
Guests also received a sample of the new Badgley Mischka fragrance, inspired by the scent of magnolia trees the designers have on their property.
At the end, confetti rained down as the crowd, including celebrity guests — including Alec and Hilaria Baldwin, Carmen Electra, and Caitlyn Jenner and Sophia Hutchins — celebrated on the runway and toasted the designers, who didn’t seem to want the night to end.
The Badgley Mischka collection is available in Houston at Elizabeth Anthony.
