Classic, well-made and illustrative of a luxurious American aesthetic, Shinola’s Detroit-built watches, bicycles, leather goods and more are a riff on nostalgia and an all-American aesthetic. Sold in cool emporiums such as Barneys New York, Neiman Marcus, Steven Alan, Bloomingdale’s and Nordstrom, a Shinola boutique has opened shop in Plano — the eighth U.S. retail location and the first in Texas — and stocks a full complement of stylish bicycles (we’re crushing on the baby-blue Runwell that’s equal part fashion and function) and sophisticated watches, handcrafted in Shinola’s Detroit flagship, plus journals, pet accessories and leather wallets, backpacks and passport holders. The 1,700-square-foot space with brick walls and a billowing floor-to-ceiling American flag also houses Shinola sister store Willys Detroit, which stocks apparel, and home and apothecary goods. Shinola’s brick-and-mortar introduction to Texas is not as random as it seems: Its parent company, Bedrock Manufacturing, is also based in Plano. 1039 E. 15th St., Plano, 972.543.4583.

This Father’s Day, he’s not dreaming of ties or tools—He wants the Recteq DualFire 1200 from Bering’s.
