New Island Bar Shakes Up Dallas’ Rooftop Scene With Swings and Caribbean Themes

Get Ready for Plenty of Rum and Tapas

Is there any other kind of bar to go to nowadays than a rooftop bar? With the ever-expanding rooftop bar scene in Dallas, it wouldn’t seem so. The newest on the docket is a multi-level, 13,000 square foot bar called 77 Degrees. The Caribbean themed destination will open at 2107 N. Henderson Avenue in August.

The new spot comes from Austin-based Union Venture Group, which already has two other locations of 77 Degrees in Austin and Houston. But, of course, being in Dallas and all, this will be the largest of the three. The space will be neutral with white accents. I’ve been contemplating what this big white hunk of a building was going to be every time I drive to Houndstooth, and now we know.

Named for the perfect cocktail temperature, 77 Degrees will specialize in island-style drinks and snacks. They hope to “evoke rum-soaked evenings in the Caribbean or tequila-fueled nights at a coastal resort in Mexico.” Sounds quite nice to me.

The four-deck rooftop will include lots of space and seating, including suspended swings, cabanas, and cantilevered decks. And later this year, the rooftop bar will be joined by a sibling concept, Jack & Ginger’s. It’ll be an Irish pub that will sit below 77.

Most importantly, the drink menu will have eight $12 specialty cocktails. For island-vibes, these include the Grape Expectations with Grey Goose Vodka, white grapes, basil and lime. Namaste has Grey Goose Le Citron Vodka, Cointreau, green tea and mint. And Norman’s Cay is a mix of Bacardi coconut rum, mango rum, pineapple fusion, coconut water and lime.

Or begin your tequila-fueled evening with the Chingon! with Illegal Joven Mezcal Tequila, Cazadores Reposado Tequila, lime, agave, jalapeño and ginger. Or the Loca Chica, served in Topo Chico bottles with Patron Silver, pineapple, and lime.

A tapas-style menu will have tacos, chips and dips, and pineapple bowls. There will be pulled pork pastor tacos and the El Loco pineapple bowl includes fresh fruit, tahin, chamoy, Flaming Hot Cheetos and candies. Red snapper will be served in a Gulf Coast Ceviche with ahi chombo, mango, lime and plantain chips. And the Guacamole 77 has fruity mix of mango, pomegranate seeds and tahin, which will be served with plantain chips and blue corn tortilla chips.

77 Degrees will be open Mondays through Fridays from 4 pm to 2 am, and Saturdays and Sundays from 3 pm to 2 am.
